And Pokemon a fad? Whaaaa! Other than Mario, no gaming franchise has ever sold more games. Pokemon, while no the blockbuster insane fad that it was here in North America, is still quite alive and kicking.
Pokemon is a huge gaming franchise, but more for the portable then anything else. Personally ive played almost every gameboy pokemon, but maybe 1 on a console. And I rented it.

I doubt Nintendo will lose on anything. Sure, they're more 'kiddy' games with the odd good adult one (Res Evil is of course hugely popular still) but look at it this way. They have exclusive rights on some huge titles (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon), Sonic has more games on Gamecube than any of the other consoles...

And also they've announced that with the new console, the Revolution, you will be able to download old Nes and Snes games which will of course draw back the older gamers who have great memories of old games. Plus their consoles are generally cheaper (always a plus); over here in UK a GC sells for around £60 whilst PS2 is £105 and Xbox is £100. Preowned the respective prices are £35, £75 and £85. And then theres the DS vs PSP thing; sure PSP will have many more games on it, plus dvd capability, but its estimated as coming out at around £150, while the DS debuted at £100.

Personally I'm not a console person; I play the odd game on my bfs Xbox (Halo, Fable, Midtown Madness) and I sure won't complain if he gets the Xbox 360 but I don't care if he doesn't! Either way I dont think it'll die out. I know our store always recommends GC as a kids console/first time console, PS2 as a family one and Xbox as a 'hardcore' gamer console.

mmm - when was this? I have heard them saying people dont want such complicated games (to which I agree - RPGs are getting far too confusing now), but never saw that.

I still want to play the old ones rather than the revamped new ones.

Capcom defected from Resident Evil Nintendo exclusives, they realized they were lossing money by keeping it exclusive.

Kiddy games are not going to work because the adverage age for gamers is not even 14-16, its 25 and so the market for adults is the real one.

Nintendo is king in handhelds because the competition always been incompetent in that field, N-Gage was a stupid handheld (you had to remove the battery to change the game, how stupid is that?) and the PSP have a battery live of a fruit fly (about 2 hours) and despite all the talk about its being more powerful its 333 processor was bottleneck to 222 to save battery.

I dont know what Revolution is about in the end, the DS was a pretty smart design but in many cases its nothing but a natural evolution of Advanced and Nintendo appeared to lost their mables when it comes to design a console.

Nintendo has said that the DS isn't actually a gameboy (I don't know where the quote was, don't ask). That is why the DS isn't as cheap as all of the gameboys... because it isn't one. I am a little pissed at how they are bringing the GBA back for a THIRD round. They should use the DS technology and make it something awesome.

I think Nintendo will sink if they don't win the handheld war. Back in the days of the first Gameboy (remember those battles tanks?), Nintendo won over the surging Atari in the handheld industry, and held the title as the best in handhelds ever since (even if the Atari's handheld was actauly a much more powerfull machine). Right now, however, they're in a bit of trouble. PSP is a hard competitor (I've even bought one)- Sony has got the titles, the industries, the money and the technology to all throw into one hell of a little system, but some say Nintendo has the spirit and willingness to create fun games. I dunno if it's exactly true or not, but I will agree: The first time I played Ocerina of Time, I was convinced a game could never top the magic felt from it. So far, I was right.

Nintendo's last hope is it's main contributer, Shiguryo Miyamoto. And while he's cranking out the ideas, games and charictors, Sony is getting some newer licences and genres. It's a pretty close match, but either way, I don't see Nintendo or Sony backing down. Personaly, I like both, so it would be a shame to see any of them fail.

Maybe I just live in an odd spot, where it seems like if a family hasn't banned Pokemon for it being 'satanic' way back toward it's peak, the children got bored of it and quit on their own. (Especially if everybody else was forced to abandon it)
Multiple card shops that shifted their stock into primarly pokemon and yugioh cards got hit hard when a large number of parents down here started protesting them and blacklisting them in churches.

Those were the days o.o
I remember when one of my friend's father found out he still had an old cartridge that escaped the anti-pokemon crusade in his house. He took it outside and smashed it to itty bits with a hammer >.>

No comments on how the behaviour is rediculous, unreasonable, or hypocritical necessary, as he also burned his own James Bond tapes after deciding they were too violent and inappropriate for the family. Wasn't just a bandwagon hop onto the anti-pokemon train, they had a serious change in lifestyle... Until it faded away for football obsessions <.<

Good ol' small town Texas.
